On June 30, 2015, local time, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and French Prime Minster Manuel Valls witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Sino-French Innovation Fund with BPI and Cathay Capital by Hu Huaibang, Chairman of CDB. According to Hu, this fund is launched as a new milestone in the Sino-French cooperation on private equity and in the development of innovative companies and CDB is in full confidence that the cooperation will deliver great results.
It is reported the fund is created to promote the development of innovative industries across China, France and the USA. The fund will focus on investing in emerging innovative startups in the information and communications technology industry based in China and France, as well as other European countries and North America, to promote cooperation between China and France in joint R&D, investment, production and development of third-party market, and boost the development of China-France trade relationship. The fund totals EUR 250 million, of which CDBC and BPI respectively invested EUR 50 million, and is proposed to be managed by the third party, Cathay Capital. In 2012 and 2014, CDB launched the Sino-French SME Fund and the Sino-French (Midcap) Fund in cooperation with Cathay Capital, CDC and BPI respectively, which have achieved satisfying performance results.
As a key player in promoting cooperation in investment and financing with overseas partners, CDB has offered financial services for an increasing number of projects in the area of clean energy, telecommunications, aircraft leasing, ship financing and SMEs by leveraging the advantages of the European market, such as the well-developed industrial clusters, advanced technologies and management skills. By the end of the first quarter of 2015, CDB has offered financing support for a total of 90 projects, approved USD 46 billion loan applications, issued USD 39 billion in loans and held a loan balance of USD 28.1 billion, and its business has covered 28 countries, including Germany, Sweden, Portugal and Greece.
